Jakes Gerwel Drive roadworks on track and progressing smoothly

21 February 2026

On Thursday night, the City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Rob Quintas, accompanied by senior Roads Infrastructure Management officials, conducted an oversight site visit to the ongoing roadworks on Jakes Gerwel Drive, between Viking Way and Voortrekker Road in Goodwood. Work is progressing as planned, with completion anticipated by Tuesday, 30 June 2026.

Construction work is taking place between 19:00 and 05:00, Monday through Saturday, weather permitting. Traffic in both directions is being affected. Road users are strongly advised to plan ahead and use alternative routes while construction is under way.

‘The City’s Roads Infrastructure Management team is actively working to complete this night-time maintenance work along Jakes Gerwel Drive and Denneboom Avenue intersection as well as the Jakes Gerwel Drive and Voortrekker Road intersection. The roadworks along Jakes Gerwel have been ongoing, and we are committed to speeding up progress as much as possible. To this end, I would like to thank residents and road users for their patience and understanding as we continue this important maintenance. Together, we’re helping keep Cape Town moving,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
